Proof of Concept: The NASCAR “World’s Loudest Billboard”

SME specializes in the technical production of large-scale experiential assets that demand high-level fabrication and complex system integration. In a high-stakes collaboration for NASCAR, SME served as the fabrication and production partner, working alongside lead agency 72andSunny and experiential agency Guru House to bring a sensory-driven concept to the heart of New York City.

The Project: To kick off the 2026 season and launch the “Hell Yeah” brand refresh, the team developed an activation designed to set a Guinness World Records™ title for the “World’s Loudest Billboard.” The installation featured a 1:1 replica NASCAR Next Gen engine mounted to a massive billboard in Times Square, capable of emitting the bone-rattling roar of a Cup Series car.
The Technical Execution: SME’s role focused on the specialized fabrication and engineering of the replica engine housing and its integration into the billboard structure. The challenge required balancing high-decibel acoustic output—reaching a peak of 133.7 decibels—with the structural integrity required for a multi-ton installation in one of the world’s most high-traffic urban environments. Our team managed the production and experiential activation logistics, ensuring the mechanical components could withstand the intense vibrations of the audio system while meeting stringent municipal safety codes and permitting requirements.
The Result: By bridging the gap between Guru House’s experiential strategy and 72andSunny’s creative direction, SME delivered a functional, record-breaking asset. The project successfully captured the visceral energy of the sport, proving that precision engineering and robust fabrication are the prerequisites for executing world-class, attention-grabbing brand moments.
